All students with 65% marks to get laptops
Launching the Honhaar Scholarship Programme for Gujranwala division by distributing cheques among the 10 top students at Government College Women University (GCWU) Sialkot, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that all students with more than 65% marks will be provided laptops."
A guard of honour was presented to the students by contingent of Punjab Police.
The chief minister announced that the Punjab government would take responsibility for the cancer treatment of a female student's mother.
Under the scheme, 1,947 students of Gujranwala division will get scholarships worth Rs89.8 million, including 1,276 students of government universities receiving Rs58.5 million, 481 students of colleges Rs13.2 million, 112 students of private institutions and 78 of medical colleges.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on the occasion that she had directed the authorities concerned to increase the number of Honhaar scholarships to 50,000 in next year's budget.
She said 30,000 scholarships were being given to children but there should be more. She said public money should be spent on their welfare.
She added, "Very soon, second and third year students will also get meritorious scholarships."
The chief minister said, "I salute the students who continue to work hard despite lack of resources. I understand the financial difficulties of the parents who educate their children."
She highlighted, "Going above political affiliation, scholarships are being given to everyone on meeit instead of any recommendation. Do not thank me for getting a scholarship, it is your right and the fruit of your hard work."
She said Honhaar was the biggest scholarship programme in the history of Pakistan.
She added,"The largest part of Pakistan's population is youth, my biggest priority is my youth."
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said, "It is my responsibility to fulfill all your needs. The first batch of laptops has arrived, I will come and give them to you myself very soon."
She underscored, "All children with more than 65% marks will receive laptops." She added,, "I have myself selected the best laptops available in the market for you."
The chief minister said the students had presented 'Kalam-e-Iqbal' very well in the city of the poet who had highlighted the importance of the youth.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also said that 100,000 e-bikes would be given to students in Punjab free of charge."
She added, "The country's economy is on the mend, inflation is coming down and the stock market has broken records. I wish the fruits of all this now reach you."
The chief minister also advised the students, "Children, keep your eyes open, do not be misled by anyone, our red line is Pakistan. Pakistan is our motherland and mother cannot discriminate between children. You all have to serve this country."
