Drake, who has served as the Toronto Raptors’ "global ambassador" for over a decade, has received a one-year ban from commentating at their games. The ban reportedly stems from his controversial remarks about former Raptors star, DeMar DeRozan. For years, Drake has shown his loyalty to the Raptors, helping design jerseys and courts. But his latest actions have sparked a rift between him and the organization.

The incident occurred in November when Drake appeared on a live broadcast during the Raptors' game against the Sacramento Kings. He called DeRozan a "goof" and made disparaging comments about retiring his jersey, saying, “If you ever put up a DeRozan banner, I’ll go up there and pull it down myself.” These remarks sparked backlash, and it seems the Raptors organization decided to act, resulting in the ban.

During the Raptors' recent game against the Golden State Warriors, Drake discovered his temporary mic ban while arriving courtside. He shared his frustration with fans on Instagram, humorously tagging the Raptors: “@raptors how long is my headphone ban?? I was born to commentate.” In a video, he spoke to the team’s announcers, Matt Devlin and Alvin Williams, jokingly accepting the ban with a grin, saying, “Good ol' one-year ban? It is what it is, it was good while it lasted, I’ll be back one day…”
