Court moved against PM over Nov 26 protest crackdown

PTI challenges PM's role in violence during November protest.

A petition seeking legal action against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was filed in Islamabad's District and Sessions Court over the violence that occurred during the November 26 protest.

The petition, filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, was heard by Sessions Judge Azam Khan, Express News reported.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar appeared as the complainant in the case.

The PTI's lawyer, Khurram Khosa, urged the court to rectify the list of names, as Barrister Gohar's name was included in the complaint. The lawyer further requested that the names of two deceased victims be added to the list.

The petition highlights the violent clashes during the protest, which resulted in injuries and fatalities, including the deaths of two individuals. The petition also includes post-mortem reports and other relevant documents to support the case.

The court adjourned the hearing and rescheduled it for January 29.

Speaking to the media outside a sessions court in Islamabad, Barrister Gohar said all possible cases against the former prime minister had been filed, Express News reported.

He added that democracy and political stability in the country require the immediate release of political detainees.

Referring to a private complaint hearing in court, he explained that PTI had submitted data on its 12 martyrs and 49 injured workers, with two more casualties reported among the injured.

He emphasised that the legal process will continue, and the party remains committed to seeking justice for its members.

Barrister Gohar disclosed that the third round of negotiations with the government is scheduled, during which PTI will present its demands in writing. He expressed optimism about achieving positive outcomes if the government approaches talks with sincerity and goodwill.

“Democracy thrives on dialogue, not discord,” Barrister Gohar stated. He stressed the importance of genuine engagement to resolve ongoing political issues and restore stability.

Barrister Gohar reiterated his confidence in the negotiation process, stating, “We hope the talks conclude soon with good news for the nation.”
