The flying Dutch men send Brazil crashing

The Netherlands defeated Brazil 2-1 in the opening match of the World Cup 2010 Quarter Final round.

The Netherlands defeated Brazil 2-1 in the opening match of the World Cup 2010 Quarter Final round.

The first Netherlands goal came off Brazilian defender Felipe Melo who scored an own goal. Netherlands then went one up  as Sneijder directed the ball with a header off a corner kick.

Defender Felipe Melo of Brazil was also given a red card and sent off the field.

The Netherlands entered the match as underdogs but ended up proving otherwise.

Brazil were also knocked out of the FIFA World Cup at the quarter final stager at Germany in 2006.

Ghana take on Uruguay

In the next match, Africa’s sole representatives, Ghana, are all set to face Uruguay today in the quarter-finals of the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

Uruguay have already faced an African nation in this tournament, the outcome of which proved to be successful as they thrashed host nation South Africa 3-0 in round one.

Yet, Uruguay Coach Oscar Tabarez said the team is expecting tough competition from Ghana.

Meanwhile, Ghana and the whole of Africa are praying for the routine not to work out this time. The Black Stars of Ghana want to create history and are extremely confident ahead of the match against Uruguay.

The match will start at 11:30pm (PST)
