ABBOTTABAD:

Two government officials in Abbottabad have been accused of misusing their authority to withdraw Rs0.57 million from the bank account of an orphanage being run by a local NGO.

The suspects allegedly influenced the local bank authorities to become signatories of the NGO's bank account and withdrew the amount.

According to sources, the bank manager confirmed the transaction and admitted that the local administration had pressured them into doing it.

He further admitted that the decision was made after the verbal approval of the authorities concerned.

The NGO has called for an immediate inquiry into the actions of the officials involved and has demanded disciplinary action against them.

The incident has also been reported to the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan and the bank ombudsman.

Social Welfare Officer Abbottabad Saira Mushtaq when contacted, confirmed that she has got signatures on both cheques by the directives of the additional deputy commissioner.
