The inclusion of Pakistan opener Saim Ayub in the Champions Trophy 2025 squad will be decided this week after further medical evaluations in London.

Saim sustained a right ankle injury during the second Test against South Africa in Cape Town while attempting to save a boundary, Express News reported.

Following the series, he travelled to London for treatment, accompanied by assistant coach Azhar Mahmood.

Renowned orthopaedic surgeons Dr David Redfern and Dr Lucky Jayaseelan examined Saim’s injury and reported no significant damage.

However, a final decision awaits assessments from additional doctors reviewing his X-rays and medical reports.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman will make the call on Saim’s availability ahead of the squad announcement for the Champions Trophy.

Doctors have also recommended a six-month rest period, making his participation unlikely.

In Saim’s absence, aggressive opener Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq could make a return to the playing XI.

Meanwhile, PCB announced the Test squad for two matches against the West Indies, introducing seven changes, including rest for Naseem Shah, Mohammad Abbas, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

According to sources, from January 12 to February 11, the board can make changes to the players at its discretion. After February 12, any player changes will require approval from the ICC Technical Committee. Until February 11, more than 15 players can be submitted for consideration.

On the other hand, the PCB is expected to send a list of 15 players along with reserves. The decision regarding the inclusion of Saim Ayub in the squad will depend on his fitness reports. Saim Ayub's name may be submitted with a fitness condition attached.
