Indie rock singer Ethel Cain, 26, took to Instagram to make a controversial statement expressing support for violent action towards the United States Congress and other institutions that she holds responsible for 'dysfunction'.

The songstress reposted a picture decrying oil, ammunition, and insurance companies, writing '#KillMoreCEOs' above it. Cain's post referred to the murder of UnitedHealthCare CEO Brian Thompson who was shot outside his hotel in New York a few weeks ago. Earlier, the singer also made a post defending the man charged with the murder, Luigi Mangione, stating that, "Violence begets violence".

“Big Oil buys off Congress. No action on climate. The NRA buys off Congress. No action on guns. Insurance companies buy off Congress. No action on health care. The list goes on and on. Money in politics is the root of our dysfunction.", the full quote read.

Cain followed the repost with a longer clarification, explaining that she did not intend to be 'edgy' but was genuinely disillusioned after people suffering. She went on to claim that violence was necessary at times to bring about change, "it’s simple, you make them fear for their lives and hit them in the only place they hurt or nothing will ever get done. i don’t even see how that’s an incredibly radical idea. it seems quite straightforward to me. ‘violence is never the answer’ wrong. sometimes it is. -\_( )_/-”

“The world is burning and it’s very clear who’s holding the matches.", Cain concluded.

Apart from the provocative statements, Ethel Cain has also been in the spotlight more recently due to the release of her album 'Perverts' whose melodies align with the singer's bold, uncompromising opinions.
