Meghan Markle and Prince Harry open $29M Montecito mansion to fire-ravaged friends
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have extended a helping hand to friends and neighbors displaced by the devastating wildfires sweeping Southern California. The couple has opened the doors of their $29 million Montecito mansion to provide shelter for evacuees while urging others to do the same.
In a statement on their website, Sussex.com, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex expressed their deep concern for the crisis. “If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do,” they wrote. They also encouraged donations of essential items like clothing, toys, and hygiene supplies to support relief efforts.
The couple, who purchased their sprawling nine-bedroom estate in 2020, are working with their Archewell Foundation and partnering with organizations like World Central Kitchen to assist those affected. Donations have already been made to various relief efforts, and plans for volunteer work are underway.
As wildfires continue to rage, leaving at least seven dead and tens of thousands evacuated, local infrastructure has been severely impacted. Power outages, water shortages, and high winds have hampered firefighting efforts, while neighborhoods, including areas near Montecito, remain on high alert.
Harry and Meghan’s Montecito property, situated in a high-fire-risk area, may also face power cuts as utility companies consider shutdowns to prevent further blazes. Despite these challenges, the Sussexes remain committed to supporting their community.
