Tom Brady, former NFL star and current minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, has reportedly reached out to his long-time coach, Bill Belichick, about a potential reunion in Las Vegas.
Following the firing of head coach Antonio Pierce earlier this week, Brady is believed to be exploring options to bring Belichick to the Raiders. Having spent 20 years under Belichick’s leadership with the New England Patriots, Brady reportedly sees Belichick’s ability to establish a winning culture as exactly what the struggling Raiders need.
Belichick, however, currently serves as the head football coach at the University of North Carolina and has publicly stated his commitment to his new role. During his introductory press conference in December, he dismissed speculation about an NFL return, saying, “I didn’t come here to leave.” Sources confirm that Belichick remains focused on recruiting and preparing the Tar Heels for their upcoming season, leaving little room for a move back to the NFL.
Despite his assurances, Belichick’s legendary NFL career, which includes six Super Bowl championships with Brady and the Patriots, has sparked ongoing interest. Multiple NFL teams have reportedly inquired about his availability, with the Raiders at the forefront of those efforts. Brady, expected to play a central role in the Raiders’ coaching search, has reportedly spoken to Belichick about what it would take for him to reconsider his plans.
Belichick’s return to the NFL would come with challenges. The Raiders, who finished their season with a dismal 4-13 record, face a significant rebuild in a division led by the dominant Kansas City Chiefs. Adding to the complexity is Belichick’s pursuit of surpassing Don Shula as the NFL’s all-time winningest coach—he is just 15 wins away from the record.
While Belichick has expressed satisfaction with his current position, his track record of unexpected moves—like resigning from the New York Jets without coaching a single game—fuels ongoing speculation. If an opportunity to re-enter the NFL aligns with his goals, it could provide a chance to solidify his legacy.
For now, the question remains whether Brady’s reported outreach will spark another iconic partnership or if Belichick’s focus will remain firmly on college football.
