K-Electric (K-E) has announced a reduction for its customers on January bills in line with a decision by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), Express News reported.

According to a K-E spokesperson, NEPRA issued its decision on the temporary monthly fuel charge adjustment (FCA) request for October 2024. The decision allows for a reduction of Rs0.492 per unit, which will be applied to customer bills in January.

The spokesperson explained that the fuel charge adjustment depends on fluctuations in global fuel prices and changes in the generation mix used to produce electricity.

“Such costs are reflected in customers’ bills after scrutiny and approval by NEPRA. When global fuel prices decrease, customers benefit from this reduction in their bills,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also clarified that the amount to be charged on customer bills is determined by NEPRA, and the federal government issues a notification for its implementation.

NEPRA’s decision stipulates that the FCA applies to all customer categories, excluding electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS), lifeline consumers, prepaid metering, and agricultural users.
