Internet traffic diverted after cable fault

The IT ministry said on Monday that Pakistan's internet traffic was diverted on alternative routes following a fault in the international submarine cable to Pakistan, which caused difficulties for consumers in browsing and video uploading and downloading.

Minister of State for IT Shaza Fazma said in a statement that a fault in the Double AE1 submarine cable affected flow of 1,000 gbps of data. She said that 630 gbps per second of traffic had been diverted to an alternative route, while 200 gbps traffic would be transferred to an alternative route soon.

Despite the ministry's claims, the internet service in Pakistan was not fully functioning on Monday.
