KWSC CEO involved in embezzlement suspended

Sindh suspends KWSC CEO over groundwater extraction licence embezzlement; inquiry underway.

KARACHI:

Sindh government has suspended Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) CEO Salahuddin Ahmed.

A major crackdown has been launched against the issuance of licences for groundwater extraction and water theft within the corporation. Sindh Anti-Corruption Authority has been approached to conduct a transparent probe into matter. As part of the action, Sindh Services and General Administration Department has suspended the KWSC chief executive.

He has been barred from coming to the office until the inquiry is completed which is ordered to be completed within two weeks.

Sources said that an embezzlement worth millions of rupees had come to light in the name of issuing licences for groundwater extraction.

After the embezzlement was revealed, 70 licences were cancelled. Chief Operating Officer Asadullah Khan has been given additional charge of Chief Executive Officer and MD until the final results of the inquiry are submitted.
