KARACHI:

The Sindh government has decided to lodge FIRs against individuals who fail to return government vehicles.

A statement issued from the Sindh information department, said that a meeting of the Sindh Cabinet Sub-Committee decided that FIRs would be filed against individuals who fail to return government vehicles and use them without authorisation. The meeting was chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon at his office in the Sindh Secretariat.

Participants of the meeting also recommended and suggested various proposals to ensure cut in expenses by using government vehicles. The meeting also discussed the option to auction the vehicles not in any use. The committee members directed the authorities to ensure the implementation of clear guidelines for the allotment and regulation of vehicles.

The senior minister emphasised the need to curb the unnecessary use of government vehicles and reduce the rising expenditure on petrol, oil, and lubricants. He said that steps must be taken to ensure complete transparency in the auction of idle vehicles.

It is worth noting that according to data provided by the Excise and Taxation Department to The Express Tribune, the Sindh government owns roughly 12,000 automobiles in departments including education, health, police, revenue collection, law and the legislative assembly.

"Once the elected terms of the ministers, advisors, and other politicians ends, they rarely return the state vehicles to the respective departments, keeping them instead for their personal use," claimed a source from the provincial excise department.
