The removal of laboratory testing requirements on the export of oranges to Malaysia marks a major milestone for Pakistan's citrus trade, announced Sargodha Chamber President Khawaja Yasir Qayyum.

In a press statement issued on Monday, he highlighted that the Food Safety and Quality Division (FSQD) of Malaysia's Ministry of Health had issued an advisory in November 2024, mandating inspections of orange shipments at Malaysian ports. This directive had created significant challenges for exporters. To address the issue, Qayyum raised the matter with the ambassador at Pakistan's High Commission. This led to a meeting with Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, where detailed discussions were held to resolve the problem. As a result, the FSQD of Malaysia's Ministry of Health has officially lifted the inspection requirement. This development is expected to significantly boost the export of oranges from Pakistan to Malaysia.
