Mohmand Dam progress reviewed
Chairman WAPDA, Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd), visited Mohmand Dam, a multipurpose project being constructed across the River Swat in Mohmand District of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), and reviewed the ongoing construction activities carried out at the key sites of the project.
During his visit, Ghani was briefed on the status of work across multiple project components, including Diversion Tunnels Outlet Works, Downstream Coffer Dam, Powerhouse Excavation, Shaft Access Tunnel, Spillway Concrete Works, and Main Dam Pit and Plinth Excavation/Concrete Works. The updates also covered progress on the Diversion Tunnels Inlet Structure and Power Intake.
The discussions focused on meeting scheduled timelines for the completion of critical tasks, such as upstream and downstream coffer dams, powerhouse development, quarry operations, and spillway concreting. The project remains on track for completion in 2026-27. The Mohmand Dam Project will be the world's fifth-highest concrete-face rock-fill dam (CFRD) and Pakistan's highest.
Once operational, the dam will store 1.29 MAF of water to irrigate 18,237 acres of new land in Mohmand and Charsadda and supplement irrigation supplies to 160,000 acres of existing land. Annual benefits of the project are estimated at Rs51.6 billion.
