CETINJE, MONTENEGRO:

More than one thousand people gathered Sunday in Montenegro's southern town of Cetinje to commemorate the victims of a mass shooting earlier this week that killed 12 people including two children.

A 45-year-old man on Wednesday opened fire at a restaurant in the small town of 13,000 people, beginning a killing spree that left 12 dead and four wounded.

At the vigil organised by the student organisation "Kamo Sjutra" (Where Tomorrow), more than one thousand people stood still in silence for 12 minutes, symbolising the number of victims, according to an AFP reporter.

Residents laid flowers and lit candles in the central part of Cetinje, which saw its second mass shooting in less than three years.

Participants in the vigil did not carry banners but turned up to "give support to the town and to the families of the victims", the organisers said in a statement Sunday after the Balkan country's authorities were criticised for the slow reaction to the shooting.
