The nationalist leaders have opposed the federal government's plan to provide 52,000 acres of land for corporate farming to private companies in Umerkot district.
The Sindh Rehbar Committee, which met in Hyderabad on Sunday under chair of Aslam Khairpuri, said they considered holding out land to the corporate sector under the Green Pakistan Initiative as a conspiracy to occupy Sindh's land.
They deplored that Sindh's water and land resources are being snatched from the province's people while the Sindh government of Pakistan Peoples Party is complicit in the plan. The nationalist leaders said even if the land in question is uncultivated and is owned by the government the same should be provided to the poor local peasants.
"In the name of progress Sindh's land, water, lakes, mountains, recreational spots and even heritage sites are being taken away from the province." The participants of the meeting, including Jeay Sindh Mahaz's leader Riaz Ali Chandio, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Party's Chairman Nawaz Khan Zaunr and Jeay Sindh Tehreek's Chairman Soriya Sindhi, said they will launch peaceful political struggle against the corporatization of land.
