Partners In Cause: Awami Party vows support for Akhtar
Two Presidents of various parties will sit on a 24-hour token hunger strike on September 14.
Awami Party Pakistan supports veteran activist Raja Jehangir Akhtar’s move to sit on a hunger strike against prevalent corruption in Pakistani society, said a press released issued by the party here on Tuesday.
To identify and support Akhtar’s cause, Railway Mahnat Kash Union President Abdul Sattar and Awami Party Rawalpindi chapter President will sit on a 24-hour token hunger strike on September 14.
Akhtar, who has 48 years of activism at his credit including his association with Lawyer Movement, is an organic activist whose only aim is to get rid of institutional corruption and to create an equal society so that representative democracy carries a meaning for the marginalized segment of the society, the statement read.
Awami Party Pakistan considers that corruption is not just an accounting problem or financial irregularity but a currency of social transaction in a very unequal society where power is concentrated in the hands of fewer and fewer and it is this form of corruption we have to address as state and society, the statement added.
The activists announced to sit on a hunger strike at Super Market, Sector F-6 on September 12 against prevalent corruption in Pakistani society.
