The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning of a new cold wave set to grip Karachi and several districts in rural Sindh starting January 4, Express News reported on Thursday.
According to the forecast, the cold wave will bring strong winds to the city and a significant drop in temperature, with the minimum expected to plummet to 6°C.
The PMD's Early Warning Centre has indicated that a western weather system has entered northern Balochistan and the western regions of the country.
Between January 4 and 5, districts in rural Sindh, including Qamber Shahdadkot, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, and Sukkur, may experience light rain and drizzle at isolated locations.
During this cold wave, temperatures across Karachi and much of Sindh are expected to drop by 4 to 7°C. The PMD further forecasted that Karachi could experience gusty winds on Saturday, with the chill bringing the mercury down to 6°C.
On Thursday, the city saw a slight decrease in the intensity of the cold, with the minimum temperature recorded at 13.5°C, an increase of 1.5°C from the previous day. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature in Karachi rose by 1°C, reaching 28°C.
