The inflationary storm continues to loom large over the twin cities instead of decreasing in the open market. The prices of flour, ghee, pulses and bakery products have also increased in the last week.
The price of a bag of wholewheat flour has increased by Rs1,300 to Rs7,000 and the price of a bag of fine flour has increased by Rs1,250 to Rs9,100. The price of ghee and oil has increased by Rs90 per kg.
Traders claim that the market committee are sat in their offices just to show that they are doing something by issuing lists of impractical prices for vegetables, fruits, meat, chicken and eggs.
The open market price varies from Rs80 to Rs100 per kg from the official rate list.
In the open market, chicken meat is priced Rs650 per kg, eggs at Rs355 per dozen, mutton at Rs2,400 per kg, beef at Rs1400 per kg, raw milk at Rs220 per kg, milk at Rs240 per kg, white gram at Rs410 per kg, lentils at Rs400 per kg, dal maash at Rs550 per kg.
Vegetables such as potatoes are priced at Rs120 per kg, onions at Rs180 per kg, tomatoes at Rs130 per kg, peas at Rs200 rupees per kg, cucumbers at Rs70 per kg, radish at Rs50 rupees per kg, carrots at Rs100 per kg, garlic at Rs700 per kg, ginger at Rs500 per kg.
