RAWALPINDI:

A man was killed and five others were injured in a dispute over paving a street in the Gujjar Khan area. According to police, Khalid Mehmood reported that the dispute arose over resistance against the paving of a street by a former UC chairman and his associates.

He said that the Punjab government had issued a grant to pave a street in the village, for which contractor Muhammad Shafiq was hired.

The contractor's secretary Abdul Rehman came to pave the street in the village, along with materials, machines and labourers.

When work started on the site, he was present along with Muhammad Ibrahim, his brother, Muhammad Kabir and Arshad Mehmood.

During this time, Zulfiqar Ali, former vice chairman of the UC, came along with his associates Ahsan, Wasif, Rahat, and Haris, and argued that the street would not be paved as it was not paved in his tenure as UC's Vice Chairman.

The complainant stated that he remained unmoved and started facilitating the contractor and his labour to pave the street, which enraged Zulfiqar Ali, who returned with firearms and opened indiscriminate fire.

As a result, his brother Arshad Mehmood, associate Muhammad Kabir, and labourers Attullah, Muhammad Riaz, Muhammad Younus, and Muhammad Jan sustained bullet injuries.
