While resting the final decision on Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairmanship solely with himself, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has reiterated Sheikh Waqas Akram as the party’s sole nominee for the position.
In a decisive stance, Khan emphasized that the final decision on the PAC chairmanship rests solely with him, dismissing any influence from government officials.
Sources revealed that Khan expressed his dissatisfaction with the PTI leadership over the handling of the PAC chairmanship nomination, asserting his authority on the matter.
"The decision on who will chair the PAC from PTI will be mine—not that of Shehbaz Sharif or any other government official," Khan reportedly stated. "My first, second, third, and even fourth choice for the PAC chairmanship is Sheikh Waqas Akram."
Khan further hinted at the possibility of resigning from other standing committee chairmanships if the PAC chairmanship is not granted to PTI.
This development follows repeated correspondence from PML-N’s Chief Whip, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, requesting PTI to submit a panel of four names for the PAC chairmanship. Despite the requests, PTI has remained steadfast in nominating only Sheikh Waqas Akram.
PTI has indicated it will formally submit its final response next week, maintaining Akram as its unwavering candidate.
