Constructors seek revised dumper hours
A meeting held at the Karachi Constructors Association office discussed the Sindh government's decision to restrict the supply hours of construction materials, sparking concerns over potential delays in ongoing development projects.
The meeting discussed the Sindh government's decision to restrict some hours during which dumpers can supply construction material.
Members Haider Kazmi, Tanveer Ahmed, Engineer Rahim Ahmed, and Abid Barni, along with others from the construction sector and Sindh Government works, attended the meeting.
The meeting raised concerns about the potential delays in ongoing development projects due to the restricted supply hours. Members emphasised that it is impractical to transport materials within limited hours.
They said the areas where construction materials, including crushed stone, sub-base and gravel, are supplied are considered unsafe at night, and dumper drivers should avoid working during those hours. Additionally, nighttime operations reduce driver performance and efficiency.
The contractors said that restriction is disrupting construction work and could lead to increased project costs due to delays.
They have demanded Sindh government to formulate an effective strategy that allows dumpers to supply materials during the day hours. They said that measures like a special pass for dumper owners would not only help in the timely completion of development projects but would also maintain the pace of development of the city.
At the end of the meeting, the Sindh government was appealed to take immediate action and resolve the issue so that the problems of the construction industry could be resolved and development projects would not be delayed.
