PTI denounces May 9 rioters conviction

Urges judiciary to act swiftly to correct the injustices

ISLAMABAD:

The PTI has vehemently denounced military courts' Thursday verdicts in May 9 cases, describing them as "unjust and inhuman decisions."

These verdicts are not only blatant human rights violations but also an affront to fundamental rights, undermining the judiciary system and tarnishing the country's reputation, it said.

According to a statement issued by PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram, trying civilians in military courts violates Pakistan's obligations under international human rights law and constitutes a blatant disregard for due process and fair trial.

He said, "The unjust and unfair decisions will exacerbate Pakistan's problems both domestically and internationally, ultimately leading to further international isolation. [This] power greedy clique seems to prioritize their own interests over the nation's well-being," he added.

He urged the judiciary to act swiftly to correct the injustices, rather than waiting for decades. The power-hungry individuals, he noted, have brazenly disregarded the law and the Constitution, with complete impunity and no fear of accountability.

"This blatant disregard for the rule of law has led to unjust and inhuman acts, which must be addressed promptly before it is too late.

"This was a critical moment for the nation to stand against fascism and for the judiciary to uphold justice, preventing blatant violations of fundamental rights and the Constitution.

He said it was time for the judiciary to ensure that the country's founding principles are protected and that the rights of citizens are safeguarded against infringement.

The PTI leader asserted that those who have seized powers fraudulently show a blatant disregard for human rights and the rule of law, driven solely by a desire to maintain their grip on power by any means necessary.
