A shelter-in-place order at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport was lifted late on Christmas night after reports of gunshots at Terminal 4. The incident led to the temporary closure of parts of the terminal as police investigated.
The police response began around 9:40 p.m. local time on December 25 following reports of gunfire. For precautionary reasons, operations at Terminal 4 and the PHX Sky Train were paused. Caution tape was seen cordoning off part of the terminal as authorities responded to the scene.
Fox News reported that a witness stated a woman was taken out of the area on a stretcher. However, this has not been confirmed by law enforcement.
The shelter-in-place order, which kept travellers waiting in the pick-up and drop-off area, was lifted around 10:30 p.m., and operations at the airport resumed. At present, there has been no official confirmation regarding injuries or any arrests connected to the incident.
Terminal 4, a major hub for Southwest Airlines and American Airlines, saw brief disruptions to its services, which have since returned to normal. Police continue to gather details on the incident.
