'Azhan's death shattered entire family'
The parents of Azhan, who died of electric shock from an electric pole in the metropolitan city, finally got justice after six years. The father of deceased minor boy thanked for the judgment and announced that he would donate the compensation money to Al-Khidmat for Almighty Allah's blessings for the departed soul.
The father of the late eight-year-old Azhan has given a message to all the oppressed, urging them not to surrender or panic in the face of oppression, but instead fight for their rights.
A KE spokesperson said, "It will be premature to comment as the company has not received the judgment yet."
It may be recalled that a tragic incident occurred on August 23, 2017, when small Azhan touched an electric pole while playing outside his house and received a fatal shock that claimed his life.
Azhan's father, Khaliq Uddin Siddiqui, filed two cases in the local court against the utility company and finally the honourable Judge Ambreen Jamal announced verdict on Tuesday, ordering the respondent company to pay Rs4.8 million fine as a compensation to the bereaved family.
Advocate Usman Farooq said in his arguments that young Azhan lost his life in the rain in 2017, for which a compensation claim was filed against K-Electric.
Speaking to The Express Tribune at his home in Gulshan-e-Usman, Khaliq Uddin Siddiqui, shared his heart-wrenching story, recalling how his life changed in 2017. He had been living in Dubai for 21 years, where his children were also educated, but they would often visit Pakistan to celebrate Eid with their joint family in Model Colony.
The children were fond of celebrating Eid in Pakistan. They had come specially to celebrate Eid al Azha. Unfortunately, the sad incident occurred just ten days before the Eid. What's even more disturbing is that despite 44 complaints about the pole, no one from K-Electric authorities had taken any action, and it was only after Azhan's death that a vehicle came within half an hour to repair the pole.
A few days before the incident, he Khaliq had gone back to Dubai.
He expressed his happiness that the judiciary had done justice, but the pain of losing his child can never be forgotten.
He further said, that Azhan was a brilliant student who always got high marks in his exams.
Khaliq Uddin got emotional recalling Azhan's last words when he said, "Baba, don't leave me, hide me in a suitcase and take me with you."
These words still haunt Khaliq Uddin, and he wishes he could have taken Azhan with him.
After Azhan's death, Khaliq Uddin's wife was in severe shock, and he had to take care of their other children for one and a half years. His wife suffered from depression, and Khaliq Uddin had to be strong for his family. He credited his children's support for giving him the desire to live and move forward.
Azhan's elder brother, Daniyal Siddiqui, also shared his memories, stating that Azhan had a deep affection for animals, which is why he had come to celebrate Eid.
