PPP to seek justice for BB on death anniversary

The Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) local leadership has announced plans to protest the lack of the arrest of slain former premier Benazir Bhutto on December 27 at the site of her assassination.

The event, coinciding with the 17th anniversary of Bhutto's assassination, will underscore the party's resolve to seek justice for her killers, with leaders asserting that accountability will eventually prevail.

Party leaders highlighted the enduring legacy of the Bhutto family, emphasising significant national milestones achieved under their leadership.

"Whenever the PPP came to power, employee salaries increased, prosperity followed, and the country progressed. After Bhutto and Benazir, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari represents hope for Pakistan," stated Shakeel Abbasi Advocate, President of the District Bar Association Islamabad, during an interaction with The Express Tribune.

He was joined by Sibtul Haider Bukhari, People's Secretariat In-charge, MPA Nargis Faiz Malik, PPP Islamabad leader Rashid Chauhan, PPP Women's Section Vice President Saeeda Bibi, Central Women Leader Professor Dr Nighat, City Leader Iftikhar Shahzad, and PPP City Rawalpindi General Secretary Raja Shahid Pappu.

The leadership expressed optimism about the party's future, claiming that "the next era belongs to the PPP." Preparations for the December 27 rally are reportedly complete, and party leaders are set to address attendees.

Despite expressing frustration over unfulfilled political promises in Punjab, they emphasized their commitment to democracy and the rule of law, avoiding tactics that could harm the national economy through protest politics.

Leaders also lauded the Supreme Court's recent decision to overturn Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's trial verdict after 45 years, calling it a historic step towards justice. They urged the government to formally recognise Bhutto as a martyr and declare April 4 a public holiday in his honour.
