James Gunn, director of the upcoming Superman: Legacy, revealed that he reached out to Zack Snyder for advice while designing Superman’s costume. Gunn, known for his creative reimagining of comic book characters, sought Snyder's input on incorporating the iconic red trunks—a debated element in Superman’s cinematic history.

In an exclusive interview, Gunn shared, “Zack told me he tried countless versions with the red trunks but couldn’t make them work. It was reassuring to hear about his challenges, and it gave me insight into how to approach the design.” Gunn ultimately decided to embrace the trunks, stating that their inclusion aligns with his vision of a Superman who represents hope and accessibility.

David Corenswet, who plays Clark Kent/Superman, added a unique perspective to the discussion. According to Gunn, Corenswet remarked, “I’m an alien from outer space who can fly and lift buildings. I want kids to see me as approachable, not intimidating.” This mindset influenced the final design, which reflects Superman’s dual identity as a powerful alien and a compassionate protector.

Gunn emphasized the importance of honoring Superman’s legacy while creating a version suited for modern audiences. Unlike previous adaptations, Superman: Legacy focuses on Clark Kent’s humanity and emotional complexity. Gunn explained, “It’s not just about external struggles; it’s about who Superman is at his core. That’s where the story finds its heart.”

By consulting Snyder and collaborating closely with his cast and crew, Gunn aims to deliver a Superman film that respects its roots while carving a fresh path. With a blend of nostalgia and innovation, Superman: Legacy promises to redefine the world’s most iconic superhero for a new generation.
