NYPD criticized after viral video of Amelia Carter subway burning incident sparks outrage

Viral video of woman burning on NYC subway and alleged NYPD inaction fuels public outrage and debate online.

Social media erupted on Monday after a disturbing video surfaced showing a woman burning on a New York City subway, with an NYPD officer seemingly walking by without intervening. The victim, identified in viral posts as 29-year-old Amelia Carter, was reportedly set on fire, leading to widespread condemnation of the police's response.

However, authorities have yet to confirm the victim’s identity, and community notes suggest that the photo circulating online may have been AI-generated. The New York Police Department has not released any official statements regarding the incident, leaving many to question the authenticity of the claims.

Users on X (formerly Twitter) expressed their frustration and outrage, criticizing the NYPD and local officials. One user wrote, “Notice NYPD walking by. This is on Hochul, Bragg, James, and Biden/Obama, Mayorkas. And NYers keep voting them in. Abhorrent.” Another stated, “The NYPD would rather waste all their resources on a perp walk than save a woman burning to death. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING.”

Amelia Carter's supposed involvement in the incident gained traction when social media posts claimed she was the victim, with some attributing her name to X’s Chatbot Grok. Nonetheless, police have not confirmed any details about the woman's identity or the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The incident has reignited debates about police accountability and the responsiveness of law enforcement in emergency situations. As the video continues to circulate, the public remains divided, with some questioning the legitimacy of the allegations and others demanding a thorough investigation into the NYPD's actions.
