AJK PM says his govt to complete its term

Says he has support of 22 members of forward bloc and may form a new party

MUZAFFARABAD:

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq has claimed that he enjoys a simple majority in the region's Legislative Assembly, which, he said, will complete its constitutional term.

"Those who want to oust me, first show support of 27 assembly members. I will then prefer to go home," Haq said while addressing a press conference. "We all will work for the betterment of the AJK and there will be no change of government till 2025," he added.

According to the PM, the mandate is held only by the members of the Legislative Assembly and local bodies representatives.

He said 22 members of the assembly have formed a forward block under his command.

"We can form a new political party at any time and a series of phased consultations is also going on in this regard. A new political party is the need of the hour," he added.

The premier said India may destabilize the AJK but he has tried his best as the PM to thwart the Indian design to flare up unrest in the region. India is trying to promote terrorism in the AJK and is using money to spread chaos and agitations, he added.

"We are working for the development of the AJK and in this regard all the available resources would be utilized equally both in refugees' area and the AJK constituencies to provide basic necessities to the people of the region," he said.

He accused the Awami Action Committee of running a political shop, adding that they have their own will as to what they want to sell in that shop.

"However, the AJK government talked to the Awami Action Committee—consisting of traders and civil society members and later we agreed that peace in the region should be our top priority," he added.
