PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has commended the role of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in presenting the case of religious seminaries, stating that Fazl has managed to thwart the "attempts of the conspirators".
According to Express News, Shujaat telephoned Fazl on Monday to congratulate him on amicable resolution to an impasse over the Societies Registration (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The PML-Q chief reportedly stated that he was happy that Fazl thwarted an attempt by the conspirators.
The Societies Registration (Amendment) Bill, 2024 was introduced in the Senate of Pakistan on October 20 to amend the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
Both houses of parliament passed the bill unanimously. However, President Asif Ali Zardari returned the bill to the National Assembly in late October due to some "technical flaws".
Incensed by this move, the JUI-F, the mover of the bill, announced launching a protest movement against what JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman described as a breach of trust. However, the tension over the bill eased after a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Fazl last week.
