ISLAMABAD/LAHORE:

The national leadership on Monday commended the Pakistan Cricket team for securing a series win over South Africa, with a victory by 36 runs, in the third and final one-day international match.

In a statement, President Asif Ali Zardari praised the Green Shirts for their outstanding performance and extended his best wishes for the team's future.

He expressed the hope that the Pakistan cricket team would continue to deliver stellar performance in the future as well.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif felicitated the Men in Green on historic clean sweep in the ODI series against South Africa.

Paying glowing tribute to the cricket team, the premier said that Pakistan Men's cricket team was the first in the world to clean sweep South Africa in a three-match or longer ODI series on their home soil.

Shehbaz expressed the hope that the team would continue to win laurels for the country in future as well.

The premier also praised Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the team management for yielding exceptional results.

A day earlier, Pakistan completed a series clean sweep over South Africa in the third one-day international at the Wanderers Stadium on Sunday.

Left-handed opening batsman Saim Ayub made a sparkling 101 off 94 balls in a Pakistan total of 308 for nine.

Heinrich Klaasen thrashed 81 off 43 balls for South Africa -- but the hosts were beaten by 36 runs chasing an adjusted target of 308. The match was reduced to 47 overs a side because of rain.

Ayub, 22, hit 113 not out in the second one-day game against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo last month and 109 in the series opener against South Africa in Paarl last week.
