MQM-P announces to celebrate Muhajir Culture Day

The event will highlight the contributions of Muhajirs to Pakistan’s cultural diversity.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has announced plans to celebrate Muhajir Culture Day on December 24, 2024, at the Governor House in Karachi.

The event aims to highlight the cultural heritage of the Muhajir community and their contributions to Pakistan’s history, Express News reported.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s Bahadurabad headquarters, MQM Pakistan Chairman Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui revealed the date and emphasised the importance of celebrating diverse cultures within the country.

He stated, “Muhajir culture is a national asset, and we must show openness while respecting each other’s cultures.”

Dr. Siddiqui was joined by senior party leaders Dr. Farooq Sattar and Anees Qaimkhani, who also expressed their support for the event.

The MQM leader also highlighted the role of Karachi as a melting pot of diverse cultures, stating, “Karachi is a bouquet where people of various languages and cultures celebrate together.”

The Muhajir Culture Day aims to focus on the legacy of Pakistan’s founders and the rich cultural contributions of the Muhajir community. The event will also feature discussions on the history and importance of “kurta pajama”, a traditional dress representing the culture.

Senior MQM leader Dr. Farooq Sattar added that Sindh is a peaceful province, home to the great Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. He described Karachi as the heart of Pakistan’s cultural diversity and stressed that the Muhajir Culture Day would serve as a bridge for national unity.

The announcement was also met with support from Governor Sindh, who endorsed the initiative, calling it a positive step toward fostering national harmony. MQM Pakistan has urged its workers and supporters to participate actively in the celebrations to make the event a success.
