Pothohar farmers rejoice landmark ginger harvest

Join event to learn about the potential of ginger cultivation

RAWALPINDI:

The successful cultivation of ginger in Davari village, Union Council Takht Pari, an ancient area of the Potohar region, has been hailed as a groundbreaking achievement in agriculture, marking what locals are calling the "Agricultural Takbeer Day" of Potohar.

To celebrate this milestone, a Ginger Festival was organised in Union Council Takht Pari, drawing participants from the Rawalpindi division, including Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal districts. Farmers and agricultural enthusiasts joined the event to learn about the potential of ginger cultivation in the region.

District Coordination Committee Chairman MNA Qamarul Islam addressed the festival, highlighting that the Potohar region's climate is highly suitable for ginger farming. He emphasised that widespread adoption of ginger cultivation could usher in economic prosperity, meet domestic ginger demands, and open opportunities for significant foreign exchange through exports.

The festival, organised by Chaudhry Aamir, Majid Fareed, and Hafiz Zain of Davari Agro Farm, featured agricultural scientists such as Dr Iqbal from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad and other experts as special guests. Qamarul Islam likened this agricultural breakthrough to the nuclear tests of May 28, calling it a transformative step for the region's economy.

He also announced plans to integrate ginger farming techniques into agricultural education at the school level. Amir Shahzad shared insights into the cultivation process and expressed optimism that ginger farming could make Pakistan self-sufficient while boosting exports.
