Poppy crops cleared on 16 acres in Balochistan

The provincial government has directed authorities to eliminate opium crops throughout Balochistan.

QUETTA:

Levies force have ramped up operations against poppy cultivation in Balochistan, eradicating 16 acres of the illegal crop in the Barab Chah area along the Pak-Afghan border within a week.

In the latest operation, six acres of poppy fields were destroyed using tractors. This followed a similar operation in Klug Mundo a day earlier, where 10 acres of poppy cultivation was cleared.

Commissioner Quetta, Hamza Shafqaat, addressing the ongoing crackdown in Killa Abdullah and Pishin districts, emphasized the gravity of the issue.

"Poppy cultivation not only breaks the law but also endangers society by fueling the drug trade. The government is determined to take stringent measures to eradicate opium cultivation across the region," he stated.
