Thousands take to streets demanding peace in Shangla

Peace slogans were chanted by the participants who were holding placards

SHANGLA:

Under the auspices of the Shangla Action Committee, a massive protest was held against the increasing incidents of unrest and terrorism in Shangla district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Friday.

Peace slogans were chanted by the participants who were holding placards on which 'we want peace in our country' was written.

Thousands of locals including leaders of different political parties, student federations, Anjuman Tajran, transporters, elders of different areas and general public took to the streets.

Expressing serious concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation, the speakers clarified that Shangla is a peaceful area and the recent terrorist incidents are simply intolerable.

They said that it seems that the law enforcement agencies in the district have failed to establish government's writ, but the local residents cannot allow terrorism on their land.

Mentioning the Gunangar police post attack, the speakers strongly criticized it and said that earlier the check post was inside the village but later it was shifted outside.
