Seven dead, dozens injured in LPG tanker explosion in India
A devastating accident early Friday morning on the Jaipur-Ajmer route has resulted in seven confirmed deaths and left dozens injured after a chemical truck collided with an LPG tanker, sparking a massive fire that engulfed multiple vehicles.
The tragic incident occurred near Bhankrota, causing widespread panic and destruction as flames spread across the scene.
Dr. Sushil Kumar Bhati, Superintendent of SMS Hospital, confirmed that seven people have died, and 10 to 12 others have sustained injuries. Over 60% of the injured victims have suffered severe burns. According to Dr. Bhati, 28 people are currently receiving medical treatment, with six in critical condition on ventilators.
The Rajasthan Chief Minister, BhajanLal Sharma, visited the site later in the day and expressed his condolences to the victims.
He also announced the establishment of a helpline to assist families affected by the disaster and assured that arrangements were being made to provide medical care for the injured.
"The state government is fully committed to supporting those who have been impacted and ensuring that all necessary resources are available for the treatment of the injured," he said.
Amit Kumar, the Superintendent of Police, confirmed the scale of the tragedy. He stated, “The accident occurred on the main Ajmer Road near Bhankrota early this morning.
Nearly two dozen vehicles were engulfed by the fire, with many trucks and trolleys reduced to ashes. The chain collision, which involved several vehicles near a petrol pump, led to the massive fire.”
Emergency responders, including fire engines and medical teams, quickly arrived on the scene to extinguish the flames and rescue survivors. However, the severity of the fire made it a challenging task, and authorities were unable to approach the site for at least 500 meters due to the intense heat.
The investigation into the cause of the collision and fire is still underway, with officials working to determine the full extent of the damage and loss of life.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid the area as efforts to clear the wreckage and contain the fire continue.
Investigations are ongoing to identify the exact circumstances that led to the tragic accident, and the Rajasthan government has promised full cooperation with law enforcement agencies to bring clarity to the incident.
