Wendy Williams made a rare public appearance on Thursday, attending her son Kevin Hunter Jr.’s graduation from Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, Florida. The former daytime TV host, 60, who has been battling early-onset dementia since 2023, became emotional as her only child received his diploma in Economics from the university’s Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs.

Dressed in a sparkling gown with Chanel shoes and carrying a Louis Vuitton bag, Williams arrived at the event using a red electric wheelchair. She was accompanied by her father, Thomas Williams Sr., 93, and her sister, Wanda Finnie, who pushed their father’s wheelchair. The ceremony marked a poignant moment for the family, with Williams wiping away tears as Kevin walked across the stage.

Kevin’s journey to graduation was marked by perseverance. He began his studies at Barry University in Miami before transferring to FIU. Kevin also took breaks in 2021 and 2022 to care for his mother during her health struggles, showcasing their close-knit bond. Resuming his studies, he achieved this significant milestone while balancing personal challenges.

Her attendance at the ceremony highlights a moment of joy for the family amid her ongoing health and legal battles. Williams has been under court-ordered guardianship since 2022 due to concerns over her cognitive and financial well-being. Recently, her legal guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, described her as “permanently incapacitated” in a court filing tied to a legal dispute with A+E Networks over the Lifetime documentary Where Is Wendy Williams?

Despite her struggles, Williams has shown resilience, appearing cheerful during a recent outing in Fort Lauderdale with her nephew. Her presence at Kevin’s graduation underscores her enduring commitment to her family, even amid adversity.
