SZA unveils ‘Drive’ music video and shares new details about ‘Lana’ deluxe album release
SZA, the trailblazing artist behind the record-breaking SOS album, has officially released the music video for “Drive,” a track from her upcoming deluxe edition Lana. The video, featuring a surprise appearance by actor Ben Stiller, premiered at midnight ET on Friday, further building excitement for the new chapter in SZA’s musical journey.
Earlier this week, SZA teased both the Lana album cover and a snippet of “Drive” through an Instagram post. The cover showcases the singer transformed into a surreal, bug-eyed figure clad in golden camouflage and cargo pants, seamlessly blending into a natural outdoor setting.
SZA also clarified the release timing for Lana. Originally expected at midnight ET, anticipating listeners will now have to wait till Friday morning for the deluxe album to drop as the artist "had to get [her] mixes right lol!".
First previewed at her Brooklyn Navy Yard concert in September, SZA described Lana as “another album” rather than a standard deluxe edition. In a November British Vogue interview, she shared how her music has evolved: “I think I am making music from a more beautiful place… not identifying with my brokenness. Piece by piece, my music is shifting because of that, the lighter I get.”
Despite this artistic shift, Lana remains an extension of SOS, which has solidified SZA as a dominant force in music. The original album delivered five Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hits, including “Kill Bill,” and spent 10 nonconsecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200 chart.
With SOS receiving nine Grammy nominations for the 2024 awards, fans eagerly await the release of Lana.
