NADRA launching facial recognition facility
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced the launch of a new facial recognition verification facility via the Pak-ID mobile app at its centers nationwide, starting January 15, 2025 as part of its initiatives for the new year.
According to a NADRA spokesperson, a consultative conference was held at the NADRA headquarters to discuss improvements in the biometric and identity verification system.
The conference was attended by regulators and officials from various sectors and related organizations. During the conference, participants discussed challenges in identity verification and the measures NADRA has taken to ensure seamless services for regulators and citizens.
The NADRA chairman provided a detailed briefing on the difficulties faced across various sectors under the current identity verification system. He said there is a need for innovation and system modernization.
The spokesperson highlighted that the issues faced by citizens with faint fingerprint impressions, particularly pensioners and elderly individuals, were thoroughly discussed.
Participants welcomed NADRA's announcement of introducing facial recognition verification at registration centers and through the Pak-ID mobile app from January 15, 2025.
This innovative facility is expected to enhance citizens' access to various services and eliminate unnecessary delays. Participants also deliberated on the advantages and challenges of using iris recognition technology for identity verification.
