Luigi Mangione, accused of fatally shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has been extradited to New York and will be held at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) Brooklyn, where Sean "Diddy" Combs is also awaiting trial.

Mangione faces four federal charges, including murder through the use of a firearm, stalking, and a firearms offense, according to an unsealed complaint.

Mangione, 26, is accused of killing Thompson on December 4 in Manhattan. His swift extradition and prosecution pace have been called "unusual" by legal experts. Attorney Brian Buckmire commented, “I’ve never seen things move this quickly in my decade of practicing in New York.” Mangione is represented by Karen Friedman Agnifilo, wife of Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo.

Diddy, 55, faces federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges, along with over 20 lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct. Denied bail multiple times, Diddy is currently held in the Special Housing Unit (SHU) at MDC Brooklyn, which houses inmates in dormitory-style cells removed from the general population.

MDC Brooklyn, the only federal jail in New York, has faced criticism for poor conditions, including overcrowding, understaffing, and inadequate safety measures. Inmates have endured electrical outages, heating failures, and multiple suicides within the last three years.

Mayor Eric Adams praised law enforcement for Mangione’s capture, tweeting, “Those who bring illegal guns to our city will face justice.”

Mangione’s case will be prosecuted in New York before addressing charges in Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, Diddy’s next hearing is scheduled for March 17, with his trial set for May.
