SHC orders payments to motorway affectees

.

KARACHI:

The constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court heard petitions filed by individuals against non-payment of compensation for their lands acquired during the construction of Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway, and sought responses from the Sindh government, Board of Revenue (BoR), National Highway Authority (NHA), and other relevant parties.

Lawyer for the petitioners, Ghulam Akbar Jatoi Advocate, argued that the construction of the motorway from Karachi to Hyderabad has resulted in the inclusion of many petrol pumps, shops, besides other lands. Despite the announcement by the chief minister, compensation has not been paid to the affectees.

The court expressed its displeasure and questioned why these landowners had not received compensation. If compensation was due, it should be paid promptly, and a report should be submitted within three weeks.

PMDC official put on notice

The SHC has issued bailable arrest warrants for a PMDC officer for exhibiting negligence towards the admission of a female student at Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College Lyari.

The petitioner's lawyer argued that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College Lyari allowed admission to the petitioner, but later on its administration revealed that an administrative error wrongly led to her admission and the seat belonged to some other candidate. The court ordered the PMDC officer to submit a bond of Rs25,000.
