MURREE:

Furniture and valuables worth millions of rupees were reduced to ashes when a fire broke out in two houses on Mohra Sharif Road, Murree, on Wednesday.

According to the police, the fire was caused by a short circuit and quickly engulfed both houses. The wooden roofs were destroyed. Residents actively participated in rescue efforts, helping to bring the fire under control after hours of struggle and preventing further damage to nearby homes.

The affected area, located three kilometres from the main road, posed significant challenges for rescue operations. Emergency personnel reached the scene on foot and, with the assistance of locals, saved over five rooms from the blaze. In total, four houses were affected, with 10 rooms and two halls burned, while five rooms were spared.

The owners of the damaged properties include Ijaz Ahmed, Shahzad Ahmed, Shahbaz, and Muhammad Chanzeb. The families have suffered financial losses amounting to hundreds of thousands of rupees.

This marks the fifth reported house fire in the area in recent days.

Residents have called on Murree Deputy Commissioner Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to provide financial assistance and support for the rehabilitation of the affected families.
