Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin's daughter Apple reacts to 'mean girl' claims after debutante ball
Apple Martin playfully addressed the backlash over her public debut at Le Bal des Débutantes through a lighthearted TikTok video.
The 20-year-old appeared to respond to accusations of “mean girl” behavior in a now-deleted video shared by her friend Ava Crox, as reported by the Daily Mail.
“I don’t know how anyone has a problem with us. We are such a delight,” Apple and her two friends mouthed to a voiceover.
“We are two of the funniest girls and I know us, like offline,” one of her friends lip-synched as the camera turned to Crox. “When I tell you, there aren’t two more caring, charitable, generous, kind…”
Apple, the daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, made her debut in high society last month in Paris, accompanied by her well-known parents.
The college student drew attention when she arrived wearing a custom blue Valentino gown adorned with a large black silk bow.
The dress, which featured six tiers of silk plissé chiffon, reportedly required 750 hours to create, as per Vogue.
Apple was seen walking into the exclusive gala alongside Count Leo Henckel von Donnersmarck.
However, criticism emerged after footage showed her seemingly rolling her eyes at her dance partner from a different angle.
The negativity grew when a video of Apple and fellow debutante Aliénor Loppin de Montmort went viral for unintended reasons.
In the video, Loppin de Montmort posed for photographers, but Apple jokingly jumped into the frame and struck some poses of her own.
The French debutante appeared to laugh awkwardly as Apple, a Vanderbilt University student, posed with her hands on her hips.
Critics accused Apple of stealing the spotlight from Loppin de Montmort during the photo session.
However, Loppin de Montmort defended Apple against the backlash.
“[Apple’s] genuinely the nicest girl ever!” she told People. “She really doesn’t deserve an ounce of what she’s getting.”
