Nick Jonas has drawn criticism from fans after engaging in a lighthearted interaction with Elon Musk on X, formerly known as Twitter. The singer’s fans quickly voiced their disappointment, interpreting the exchange as an endorsement of the controversial billionaire.

The incident began when Musk shared a GIF of the Jonas Brothers spinning around a coffee table with the caption, "My, how the tables have turned!" in response to Tesla Owners Silicon Valley’s claim that Tesla profits had risen by 100% following Donald Trump’s election win. In reply, Jonas quoted Musk’s post and referenced the Jonas Brothers’ 2006 cover of ‘Year 3000,’ writing, “Take us to the Year 3000.”

The playful exchange, however, received backlash from fans, who viewed it as an alignment with Musk. Some expressed their dismay with sarcasm, calling it “a choice,” while others highlighted their disappointment, referencing Jonas’s past controversies, including the Jonas Brothers’ breakup in 2013. Others pointed out that ‘Year 3000’ was originally a song by British band Busted, further fueling the criticism.

This isn’t the first time Jonas has faced public scrutiny. While he has generally kept his political affiliations low-profile, Jonas previously voiced support for Democratic President Joe Biden in 2020 and canceled shows in 2016 to protest North Carolina’s controversial “bathroom bill.”

Musk, meanwhile, continues to dominate headlines with polarizing actions and statements. Recently, his net worth soared to $439 billion after SpaceX’s valuation increased, according to Bloomberg. The billionaire’s alignment with figures like Donald Trump has only heightened the divide surrounding his public image.

The backlash against Jonas highlights the public’s growing scrutiny of celebrities’ social media interactions, particularly when engaging with polarizing figures like Musk. Representatives for Nick Jonas have yet to comment.
