The Lahore police have established a Cyber Squad to tackle aerial firing, weapons display, and their promotion on social media ahead of the New Year's Eve.
According to DIG Operations Lahore, Faisal Kamran, a special action plan has been devised to prevent aerial firing. In addition to the cyber squad, special police teams have been established for hotspots in New Year and Christmas areas to target the promotion of illegal weapons and aerial firing on social media.
DIG Kamran further stated that immediate legal action will be taken against those involved in aerial firing, and offenders will face imprisonment.
This year alone, 831 individuals involved in aerial firing and displaying weapons have been sent to jail, and 505 cases have been registered. He emphasized that stray bullets from aerial firing lead to the loss of precious human lives.
“Do not turn your celebrations into mourning. Without public cooperation, it is impossible to stop this heinous act of aerial firing. Citizens are urged to report any criminal activities in their surroundings by calling 15.”
Earlier YouTuber Rajab Butt was arrested by police in collaboration with the Wildlife Department for displaying firearms and illegally keeping a lion cub at his residence.
The authorities took action when a video surfaced showing Rajab receiving a newborn lion cub as a wedding gift, raising concerns over illegal possession of wildlife.
The YouTuber claimed that he had been gifted the lion cub during his wedding ceremony by his friend, rejecting the allegation of committing any wildlife regulations.
Rajab Butt was soon released on personal surety. According to police officials, the SHO concerned granted the surety, allowing Rajab Butt relief until his court appearance scheduled for the morning.
