Chappell Roan not afraid to ‘say something controversial’ if she wins at the 2025 Grammys
Chappell Roan, the rising pop sensation with six nominations for the 2025 Grammys, revealed she plans to "say something controversial" if she takes the stage as a winner.
During A Carpool Karaoke Christmas with Zane Lowe on Apple TV+, Roan shared her candid views on the Grammys, describing them as a "double-edged sword."
“It’s such a double-edged sword for me, because I’m like, ‘Yes, it is a talent show for the popular kids,’” the 26-year-old began. “But the other side is… it’s amazing that a gay artist wrote a gay song that went No. 1 … and has been busting her a-- for like a decade.”
Roan, whose breakout album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess earned widespread acclaim, is competing in all of the Big Four categories, including Best New Artist, Album of the Year, and Song and Record of the Year for her hit "Good Luck, Babe!" She’s also up for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album.
Asked about a potential acceptance speech, Roan teased, “I don’t have a speech yet, but you know me. I’m going to say something controversial. Why not? Girl, what do I have to lose?”
Despite her success, Roan has expressed conflicting feelings about the accolades, previously telling The Face that she "kind of hopes" not to win. However, her rapid rise, record-breaking festival appearances, and chart-topping hits have cemented her as one of the most talked-about artists of the year.
The 2025 Grammys will take place in February, with Chappell Roan positioned as a standout nominee.
