Karachi in grip of icy Siberian winds

The icy winds from Balochistan have made the weather in Karachi even colder, causing the temperature to feel 2 to 4 degrees lower than the actual temperature.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather in Karachi will remain cold and dry over the next 24 hours, with a recorded minimum temperature of 12.2°C today.

In the next 24 hours, the maximum temperature is expected to reach 26°C, while the minimum will be around 10°C. Winds from the northeast are expected to blow at a speed of 10 to 25 kilometers per hour throughout the day.

It is worth noting that the cold weather in Karachi has been intensified in recent days due to the chilly winds.

Strong winds from the northeast that started their journey from the icy planes of Siberia travelled through the Central Asia to reach Afghanistan and then bring chilly weather to Quetta and from their they started to relax and finally reached Karachi on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

The last whiff of the Siberian wind, known in Karachi as Quetta Wind was enough to send the metros dwellers rushing to buy warm clothes.

Northern Pakistan:

Meanwhile, in northern Pakistan, temperatures had dropped significantly.

The lowest temperature in the past 24 hours was recorded in Leh at -13°C, followed by Skardu at -7°C, Kalam at -6°C, and Islamabad at -1°C.

Peshawar, Lahore, and Multan had recorded temperatures of 3°C and 7°C, respectively.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, heavy snowfall had covered the mountains, and roads, homes, and trees were blanketed in snow.

Northern Balochistan had also been under a severe cold wave, with temperatures in Quetta falling to -6°C, and -5°C in Kalat and Ziarat.

The PMD had issued a warning that the cold wave would persist in many regions of the country.

The weather had been expected to remain cold and dry in Islamabad and surrounding areas.
