Amanda Seyfried has clarified rumors surrounding a viral video of her singing "Popular" from Wicked. The clip, where she dons a silver princess dress, sparked speculation that it was part of her audition for the role of Glinda in the 2024 film adaptation of the beloved musical. Speaking to PEOPLE during the Make It Cute x Babylist Holiday Event on December 10 in Beverly Hills, Seyfried confirmed that the video was not an official audition but a playful moment.

"I was doing a Lancôme shoot during COVID," said Seyfried, 39. "I joked that the dress looked like Glinda’s, and my stylist Elizabeth Stewart encouraged me to sing ‘Popular.’” She added that the video, later posted online by Stewart, was meant as a behind-the-scenes jest.

While Seyfried admitted the posting may have led to misunderstandings, she emphasized that the moment was lighthearted. Interestingly, she later auditioned for Glinda in earnest, though the role eventually went to Ariana Grande. Reflecting on the experience, Seyfried said, "I went hard for that, for sure… but everything happens as it’s meant to be."

Seyfried also praised Grande's performance in the film, calling it "fantastic" and noting that her children are already obsessed with the soundtrack.

Currently preparing for her role in The Housemaid alongside Sydney Sweeney, Seyfried has transformed her look, dyeing her hair a brighter blonde. “It helps me get into character,” she said, adding that she embraces a more low-key lifestyle when not working, often avoiding the mirror during downtime at her family’s farm.

Seyfried also promoted Make It Cute, her company blending home design and kids' toys, aiming to balance aesthetics with functionality for families.
