Islamabad Police have rearrested 81 workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) immediately after they were discharged by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC). The police immediately took the workers back into custody from the court premises, clearly defying the ATC decision.
ATC Judge Abul Hasanat Zulqarnain heard a case of PTI workers who were arrested in connection to the party's protest at D Chowk. The judge ordered the release of 81 accused after the identification parade and sent 48 others on physical remand.
The cases against those discharged by the court were filed at Khana Police Station, I-9 Police Station and Kohisar Police Station.
During the trial, police tightened security around the judicial complex and barred the media from coverage.
The PTI lawyers said police rearrested PTI workers who were discharged from the case. The counsel of PTI workers informed the court about the situation. He said the police did not allow the workers to leave the judicial complex after their release by the court.
Following PTI's November 26 protest, the anti-terrorism court sent 749 arrested individuals on a 14-day judicial remand to Adiala Jail, while 37 workers were released after being discharged.
The court ordered that the individuals on physical remand shall be produced again on December 5, while those on judicial remand shall be produced on December 12.
